FICCI Sec.Gen. visited Karachi for Seminar

although it was World Cup Cricket semi-final, which set the stage for two arch rivals India and Pakistan to sit together and talk. Started with two prime ministers and later on two secretaries met and discussed various issues and set technical committees. According to latest details, central banks of two countries are already corresponding about opening up of commercial bank branches. Besides, technical committees to submit reports on BT seeds, Crude oil products, Visa issues, trade routes and non-tariff barriers.

Government level discussion have reached to private sector as Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's Secretary General, Rajive Kumar visited Karachi, although the event was organized by Pakistan-Indian Chamber of Commerce but it was not without Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry's help. I covered the event and during the first break there was a tea session participants from both countries sat as if the are at a local tea shop and discussed about this and that, it was really difficult than to tell who is from India and is from Pakistan.

Mr. Kumar in his address said that both countries make great progress but then a every thing ends, in Urdu  and Hindi we call it "Nazar Lag Jati Hay". He further said that the estrange point is that every time discussion halts it gets backward, he suggested to put a support so we cannot go further down. He said environment in India is changing private sector wants to engage in discussion and constructive relations, it is need of the hour and it will be achieved. He further said that India wants to play its big brother role in South East Asia and for that if India has to give concessions to other regional countries India will do so. But no one should consider it India's weakness. He ensure the audience FICCI will play its positive role in harnessing trade relationship.

Pakistan Commerce Secretary Zafar Mahmood reservations rotten trade and bilateral relations, if trade relations improve it will be better for both the countries. In order to achieve this we would have to device a road  map. Though he complain that Pakistan suffered a lot in war against terrorism, then flood struck the country. 27 EU countries understood the difficulty and allowed 75 items exports duty free but India has yet to clear the list. He said this could be the next break up point. When I inquired Mr. Rajive about the concern and the reservation, he said it is not a big thing and will not hamper talks. He ensured he would do his best in solving this matter.

The event went well at the end everyone was excited and happy at the end of the seminar.
